For the first time, Damo Mitchell will be teaching an event in New Zealand. Over four days, he will be leading a small group through the foundations of Daoist Nei Gong training.
The foundations of Nei Gong involve learning how to establish the causes and conditions for the formation of the lower Dan Tian, the energetic centre upon which the Chinese internal arts are built. It is here, within the lower Dan Tian, that the body begins to awaken, accumulate and refine Qi, providing the energetic fuel required for the deeper transformative processes of Daoist practice.
Throughout the four days, Damo will introduce the key principles and practices that form the foundation of the Lotus Nei Gong syllabus. Students will work with the physical body, attention and internal energetic mechanisms in order to establish the conditions required for internal development.
The training will involve a combination of theoretical and practical study. Lessons will revolve around helping the group understand how to practise according to the classical guidelines of Nei Gong and then applying these principles through a mixture of static and moving exercises.
Training will include both standing and seated methods, with much of the physical work following the principles of the Yi Jin Jing, or Sinew Changing Classic. Through these methods, the body is gradually converted into a more efficient vehicle for internal practice while Qi is gathered and consolidated within the lower abdomen. The aim of this process is to begin awakening the dormant lower Dan Tian; a vital and yet often missing aspect of inner-work.
Over the four days, students will be introduced to a clear and systematic approach to the early stages of internal development, giving them both an understanding of the underlying theory and a practical training method that they can continue to develop after the event.
We look forward to seeing you there!
