Apply for a Remote Hut

Before proceeding with your booking for the remote huts at Te Moata, please read the following important information carefully:

• Accommodation Fee - Remote huts are available for a small fee of $25 per night.
• Emergency Preparedness - Guests staying in remote huts must have a cell phone with them at all times in case of an emergency. It is essential to take your phone on hikes.
• Natural Hazards - Te Moata is an area that presents natural hazards. It is crucial that you take responsibility for your own safety while on the premises.
• Physical Fitness Requirement - A degree of physical fitness is necessary to hike through the bush to reach the huts, as you will need to carry your food, bedding, and other essentials.
• Recommended Gear - We recommend bringing tramping boots (which MUST be scrubbed thoroughly to protect our Kauris against the Kauri die-back fungus), wet weather gear, warm bedding, a torch with spare batteries, candles, matches, a charged cell phone, a whistle (available at the centre), and toilet paper.
• Arrival Time - You must arrive with plenty of daylight time and meet one of Te Moata's managers upon arrival for orientation.
• Alternative Accommodation - There is other accommodation, for those seeking more comfort, consider one of the self-contained units near the centre, which are only available when retreats are not in session.
• Hut Amenities - The remote huts are equipped with a gas ring for cooking, a mattress and pillows, a basic toilet, tank water (which needs boiling), kitchen basics, and NOelectricity, heating or showers.
• Access Rights - Te Moata reserves the right to decline access to remote huts if it is determined that a visitor is ill-prepared or if extreme weather conditions are present.
