Getting Here

If you’re planning to drive, Tairua is easily accessible from several major cities. The drive from Auckland takes approximately 2 hours and 25 minutes, while it takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes from Tauranga. Follow State Highway 25 and enjoy the picturesque views along the way. Go-Kiwi operates 7 days a week and runs a daily shuttle from downtown Auckland and Auckland airport through Tairua and on to Whitianga. They will drop you off and pick you up at the beginning Paul Road, 15 minutes North of Tairua.

We facilitate carpooling arrangements based on the information provided in the retreat registration forms. If you're interested in carpooling, please ensure to fill out the necessary details during registration.

For those flying into New Zealand, the nearest major airport is Auckland Airport (AKL). To check flight times and book your arrival Air New Zealand or Jetstar. From there, you can easily connect with shuttle or rental car options.

From Tairua

1. Travel Distance: Continue 6 km north from Tairua (approximately 12 minutes).
2. Landmark: Just past the lookout on your right at the top of the hill, look for Paul Road.
3. Turn: Turn left into Paul Road (please note that the road is not sealed).
4. Arrival: Te Moata is located 1.8 km down Paul Road, nearly at the end. The road is steep and gravel.

From Whitianga

1. Travel Distance: Head 34 km south from Whitianga (approximately 40 minutes).
2. Landmark: Paul Road will be on your right, prior to the lookout on your left.
3. Suggestion: You might want to find the lookout and turn around there for easier navigation.
4. Arrival: Te Moata is located 1.8 km down Paul Road, nearly at the end. The road is steep and gravel.

Important Notes for All Visitors

• GPS Warning: Please do not rely on your GPS for directions, as it may not provide accurate information. We are listed on Google Maps.
• Mobile Reception: If you have arranged to be met by us, please text prior to your arrival at Te Moata, as mobile reception may be limited in this area. Spark is the provider with coverage here.
• Entering Te Moata: When you arrive at the Te Moata sign on Paul Road, drive down the concrete driveway slowly and cautiously, following signs to the ‘centre’.
• Retreat Guests: If you are attending a retreat, you will be met at the top of the driveway and guided down to your destination.
• Srub your footwear/boots: If you are coming to Te Moata and going to walk in our bush please scrub your footwear/boots so they look brand new – we know you want to Help Save our Kauri Forests
