Permaculture

Permaculture embodies our commitment to kaitiakitanga, guiding us in our stewardship of the land. We adhere to three core ethical principles: Caring for the Earth / Papatuanuku, Caring for People & Sharing Resources

Caring for the Earth / Papatuanuku

We are dedicated to preserving the natural beauty of Te Moata. Our approach ensures that our bushland can thrive undisturbed, while the streams remain clean and pure, providing vital habitats for native flora and fauna. Here, we grow fruits and vegetables naturally, nurturing healthy soil and fostering biodiversity.

Caring for People

Te Moata is a sanctuary where individuals can reconnect with nature, find tranquility, and build community. We offer a space for learning and personal growth, inviting travelers from all walks of life to explore permaculture principles and the rich culture of Aotearoa. As participants grow in knowledge and experience, they are encouraged to share their insights with others.

Sharing Resources

Our community thrives on collaboration. Our managers live together, sharing tasks and resources harmoniously. Visitors, including woofers, seamlessly integrate into this supportive structure. The bounty of our land is shared generously with course participants, while those on meditation retreats contribute through karma yoga, giving back to Te Moata. Our governance is rooted in co-operative principles, emphasizing sustainability by limiting consumption and recycling diligently.

Permaculture Goals

  • To work collaboratively with groups to bring transformative permaculture courses and certifications to our sanctuary
  • To cultivate a deep connection with the land while empowering individuals through education

Te Moata is an ideal environment for aspiring permaculturists. Here, you will witness permaculture in action and engage directly with the ecosystem as you learn. Our experienced instructors possess a profound understanding of Te Moata's vision and bring years of expertise in permaculture practices.
